| Luke Ronald Ian Baxter (AKA
BaxStar*)(Born 21 September 1985, Aylesbury,
Buckinghamshire) is an English singer/songwriter and digital
composer.
Luke Baxter, the first son of Ian Baxter and Jeannette
Tames was born at the Royal Buckinghamshire hospital in
Aylesbury on the 21st September 1985. His father, Ian, was a
photographer and passionate guitarist with a love for Blues,
Country & Western music. His mother was a secretary with a
vast and eclectic collection of 12 inch vinyl and a lover of
Folk and World music. She introduced him to the likes of Cat
Stevens, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Leonard Cohen, Simon &
Garfunkel and The Beatles. In 1990, Luke's parents divorced,
his father retreated to France and in 1991 his mother began
a relationship with an independent record label owner and
manager, Richard Evers, that would last almost 15 years. It
was Richard who fathered Luke and his siblings: older
sister; Hannah Baxter and younger brother; Thomas Baxter. He
bought Luke his first instrument, a jazz drum kit for his
6th birthday and introduced him to the music of Radiohead -
Luke's favourite band who he has developed a passion for.
Contact with Ian deteriorated and a new family dynamic was
created.
Luke attended Tring School, Hertfordshire. Here he sat
his GCSE's and attempted one year at sixth form, studying
for A-levels. But during this time, the relationship between
Richard and his mother had deteriorated and they were forced
to separate. His mother now had the struggle of running a
house and family on her own whilst attending her
responsibilities as a managing director. So Luke felt it was
right for him to leave school and start working full-time to
pay his own way. During this time, he started to teach
himself to play guitar and with the family computer, he
borrowed some Audio Sequencer software from a friend and
spent countless hours in front of the computer teaching
himself how to compose music digitally. For the next three
years, Luke spent hours practicing and learning computer
music and drifted between 26 different jobs before finally
in 2006 he decided to study a degree in Contemporary Music
Production at Park Lane College in Leeds. Now into his
second semester of the first year of the course.
BaxStar is currently in the process of penning an
Indie-pop album whilst also working on new projects: a chill
out/leftfield album and an electronica album. Collaborations
with local producers and vocalists and musicians are rife
and two releases on independent record labels are due out
this year. He has also begun producing tailor-made
soundtracks and sound designs to accompany video pieces for
a media firm and the future looks bright.
